On Wednesday, February 21, senior students, accompanied by Mr. Scriber and Ms. Loughmiller, participated in National Engineer's Day hosted by the University of New Orleans. Students enjoyed various hands-on engineering projects and presentations, and the “Dream Big: Engineering Our World” movie produced in partnership with the American Society of Civil Engineers. At the event, students were immersed in space exploration through a portable and inflatable planetarium provided by NASA, highlighting the significance and safety of viewing the total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024. NASA and Boing also gave insight into their next mission, Artemis II, to establish a long-term presence on the Moon for science and exploration. Students witnessed first-hand the effects of decreasing the environmental pressure to make water boil in an experiment with Peeps candy, built paper helicopters that spun and flew as high as the ceiling, and generated electricity to power lights by riding a stationary bike. UNO engineering students designed a Baja kart that intrigued all Engineer's Day participants. It was a great day for our students as they learned more about engineers' roles and how they impact our world and lives. #gryphonengineers Laissez les bon temps rouler! Students in Mrs. Lagarde's art classes designed and created giant Mardi Gras float flowers. Each class created one giant flower as a group project. All three flowers are hanging in the school entryway to get us in the Mardi Gras spirit! #creativegryphons #MardiGrasVibes 💜💚💛 Rev. John Ramsey from First English Lutheran Church led our first chapel of the New Year and reminded us to "Come and See" all that Jesus offers. We also celebrated Rev. Limakatso Nare who was recognized by National Lutheran School Accreditation (NLSA) as an Outstanding Lutheran School Shepherd. We are blessed to have Pastor Nare as part of our faculty! In addition, he is the pastor at Mount Zion Lutheran Church. No celebration during this time of year is complete without a King Cake party! Congratulations to all of the Lutheran High students who earned placement on the Quarter Two Honor Rolls! Mrs. Hernandez and Mrs. Lagarde presented Honor Roll certificates following Chapel on Friday. Wonderful job, Gryphons! #gryphonscholars It was French Fry & Cheeseburger Friday at LuHigh today! Many thanks to our Alumni Grill Crew for sharing their culinary talents with students and faculty today! Hot fries, grilled cheeseburgers with fixings, cookies, and soft drinks were on the menu. Hats off to the chefs, Steve and Kathy Koester, Jon Koester, Bruce Growden, and Doug Kibler! We appreciate you! #OnceaGryphonAlwaysaGryphon #luhighalumnigrillcrew |
