Lutheran High celebrates International Day! In preparation for this school-wide event, students in Mr. Artiz's Spanish and Social Studies classes worked in groups to research various countries' languages, histories, climates, and cultures. On the event day, groups showcased their research with colorful display boards, wore traditional dress, and offered food unique to that country. Faculty and students enjoyed "stamping their passports" and visiting the countries on display. Excellent job, Gryphons! LHS was blessed to have visitors from Austin, TX and Concordia University! These guests chose to spend their Spring Break volunteering in the New Orleans area! Be sure to check out the fresh coat of paint on what we affectionately call our "3rd Building!" These volunteers also shared a chapel message with us based on Isaiah 40:28-31. Our Alumni Grill Crew joined the fun and shared cheeseburgers and fries with our visitors and students! #ctxcampusministry #ctxgomissions #onceagryphonalwaysagryphon LHS students spent the week of National Lutheran Schools Week (NLSW) “Connecting” with one another based on John 15:1-5. During chapel, members of the Service Club presented a few skits from “Vines University” that reminded us how important it is to stay Connected to God and to Connect with people who can help us grow in our faith. Michelle Zollinger, the President of the LA-MS District of the LWML and Gladys Brown, New Orleans Zone President, made a special presentation at the end of Chapel. At last year’s National LWML Convention, Lutheran High was selected to receive a grant funded by the LWML’s mite boxes. LHS plans to use this grant to help us increase enrollment. On Thursday of NLSW, students connected by wearing their favorite color and enjoyed a special lunch prepared by Ms. Loughmiller and the Service Club. Partner challenges saw students “Connecting” puzzles, paper clips, pasta, and more. The day ended with a baby shower to “Connect” to the newest member of our Gryphon family – Cristian Artiz (the son of Mr. Artiz and his wife Cristina). Junior students, accompanied by Mrs. Lagarde and Mr. Scriber, toured Nicholls University to learn more about the many opportunities and degree programs available. Thank you to Kirsten Hill for the wonderful tour and admissions presentation. We also met a recent LHS alum on his way to class at Nicholls. After a taste of college life at the student dining hall, students enjoyed a VIP interactive tour of the mass communications department. Students were on the news, live on the radio, learned about student journalism, and even "flew" a drone. Thank you to Professor Lance Arnold and staff for making our visit so fun and memorable! In celebration of Black History Month, students in Mrs. Lagarde's art classes learned more about Jean-Michel Basquiat, a modern neoexpressionist artist. Basquiat's artwork dealt with themes of racism, classism, and other power structures and their effects on U.S. society. Students created their own works inspired by Basquiat. Great job, Gyphons! |
