Students in Mrs. Lagarde's art classes added a festive Mardi Gras vibe to the halls of Lutheran High with their float flowers creations! LHS students and faculty celebrated Black History Month through in-class lessons, art, and a school-wide assembly. At our assembly, students and faculty celebrated Black History through song across the decades and concluded with reading an excerpt from Amanda Gorman's poem, "The Hill We Climb." We were blessed to have Pastor Nare offer our opening and closing prayers. Thank you to Mrs. Hansen, who shared personal remarks and acted as Mistress of Ceremonies, the Lutheran High Choir, directed by Mr. Scriber, who performed a variety of anthems and songs, and our student readers. We are also pleased to share the work of our art students who created their own African masks using pencil, crayon, and watercolor paints. They were inspired by the work of Lois Mailou Jones, who emphasized African culture, especially African masks. Recently the aroma of grilled burgers and crispy hot fries filled the air as Lutheran High's Alumni Grill Crew treated students and faculty to a delicious meal with all the favorite toppings. For dessert, king cake! Heartfelt Gryphon thanks to Warren Blackwell, Michael Arceneaux, Jon Koester, Rob Saak, Geoff Jenny, Doug Kibler, and Kathy and Steve Koester for the festive Friday lunch treat! Congratulations to LHS senior Johandra Aquiles for earning one of the Mystical Order of the Phoenix “Flames of the Future” Student Leadership Awards. The Mystical Order of the Phoenix scholarship recipients receive an award stipend in the amount of $1000, along with the ride of a lifetime, (throws included), in the Spartan Society 2025 Mardi Gras parade, Saturday, February 22, 2025. The magical moments of our students and faculty enjoying this historic snowfall in the Greater New Orleans area! Congratulations to our students who earned placement on the second quarter honor rolls! Great job, Gryphons! Students were presented with a certificate and received a special treat at lunch. Congratulations to Lutheran High students Kori Holmes and Deborah Flores-Sosa for their winning entries in the Heather "Heddy" Nichols Memorial Scholarship - the Spirit of the Phoenix. Students each submitted a hand-painted plastic charger plate, the Mystical Order of the Phoenix signature throw. Mystical Order of the Phoenix Board Members Gigi Saak (Chair), Carla Catalano, and Kelli Wright presented their scholarship checks. Congratulations to Kori, Deborah, and the Gryphons who participated in the contest. Excellent job, Gryphons! At Lutheran High, students engage in collaborative problem-solving to find solutions to real-world problems. Students in Mr. Ferguson's engineering class worked in teams to design a lift system prototype, a compound machine that can raise and lower 1/2-pound objects through a range of 2 feet as their final semester project. They used VEX IQ building pieces to construct their machine. Each team presented their design process and performed a demonstration of their machine in use. Awesome job, Gryphons! |
