On Saturday, September 13, the LuHigh Cross Country team competed in the Country Day Cajun Classic at City Park. Coach Scriber notes, "Everyone ran exceptionally well and scored better times. We are getting better and better with every meet! Good job and Go Gryphons!" The Lady Gryphons, coached by Ms. Loughmiller, kicked off their volleyball season against First Baptist Christian! It was great to have fans in the stands as the team gained confidence with each game played! The LHS JV and Varsity teams were on the road Tuesday to Baton Rouge! Go GRYPHONS! The LHS Cross Country team competed in their first cross country meet of the year, "Battle for New Orleans," at the Lakefront Arena at UNO on Friday, September 5th. Coach Scriber notes, "It was a competitive meet and everyone ran hard! It was a great start to the season and more will follow as we get better and better!! Good job and go Gryphons!!" Congratulations to our LuHigh athletes! Students and faculty were blessed with good company and delicious food! We enjoyed cheese burgers off the grill and hot french fries cooked to perfection by our own Lutheran High Grill Crew. What a wonderful way to end Welcome Week! Thank you to Doug Kibler, Kathy and Steve Koester, Pastor John Ramsey (First English Church), and Tyrone Tedesco for sharing their mad cooking skills and love for Lutheran High! ❤️🖤 Welcome back, Gryphons! It's wonderful to see our hallways and classrooms buzzing with energy again. At the first Chapel of the school year, Pastor Nare introduced our theme, "Make a Joyful Noise." The choir, led by Mr. Scriber, shared their musical talents and inspired us all to join in making a joyful noise. Pastor Ramsey from First English Lutheran Church installed and blessed our faculty and staff in a school-wide Chapel celebration yesterday. Gryphons, let's make this the best school year yet! A warm Gryphon welcome to Ms. Colleen Able and Mr. Steve Jones! Ms. Able has moved from part-time to full-time at Lutheran High this year. She will be teaching social studies, science, and Spanish. A New Orleans native, Ms. Able has taught high school science for over ten years. She has a MA+30 in Environmental Geography and is passionate about local environmental issues and conservation. Ms. Able enjoys outdoor activities including hiking and camping, learning foreign languages, escape rooms, visiting museums, taking care of her cats, and traveling with her son. Mr. Jones is joining us part-time this year to teach physical education, social studies, and religion. He is a graduate of Jesuit High School and the University of New Orleans. He has over 25 years of baseball and basketball coaching experience. His wife, Christine, is also an educator with over 34 years teaching experience. Following in his footsteps, his son, Jonathan, is a coach and will be graduating from William-Carey University in December. Mr. Jones is a member of Faith Lutheran Church. His hobbies include disc golf and golf. Welcome, Ms. Able and Mr.Jones! At Lutheran High, we know that critical and creative thinking are not separate skills; they go hand in hand. That's why we believe in exposing our students to the arts in and out of the classroom. Our arts program is designed to help students visualize complex concepts, communicate their ideas effectively, and build confidence while expressing their individual creative spirit. Many thanks to Josh Wingerter, with Josh Wingerter Art, for hosting our students at his studio for an interactive art experience during the school year. Our students had fun and learned so much about the creative process. Pastor Richard Rudnik from Grace Lutheran Church, Houma, LA joined us to celebrate our Rising Seniors, LHS Class of 2026, as they received their class rings. Pastor Rudnik referenced Proverbs 25:12 in his message. As seniors they will have the opportunity to earn the trust of underclassmen so that they may share wisdom and guide them in a caring way. |
