In an in-class lab, students in Mrs. Lagarde's biology class investigated the properties of acids and bases. Students predicted whether common liquids such as juices, soda, water, and household cleaning solutions would be acids, bases, or neutral. They then used litmus paper to test the PH of each liquid. Afterward, they applied what they learned to answer questions about their experiments. What a great way to start our school year! On Monday, August 21st, Gene Menzel, LCMS Southern District Executive of Schools, presented LHS Principal Nancy Hernandez with our National Lutheran Schools Accreditation certificate. Thanks to our student body and their parents who made this possible by working with our LHS faculty, staff and board of directors. Our hard work last spring led to this designation that is good for five years. We followed this celebration up with chapel on Tuesday where Ms. Loughmiller shared a message that reminds all of us what it means to be CONNECTED. Our school theme for this year is based on John 15:1-5. At Chapel, the LHS Choir, directed by Mr. Scriber, enhanced our celebration with their musical gifts. LHS students in the community demonstrate what it means to be a Gryphon! Lutheran High students, accompanied by Ms. Loughmiller spent their Saturday morning at St. John Lutheran volunteering on August 19th. Thank you, St. John Lutheran, for the opportunity to serve. #LoveHonorServe Mrs. Hernandez, Mrs. Lagarde, and Ms. Loughmiller shared with the Class of 2024 and their parents/guardians the many important dates and steps needed to navigate this last high school year at LHS's Senior Night held on Thursday, August 18th. Many thanks to all who attended. Seniors, this will be an exciting time filled with many wonderful high school memories and big dreams for your future! We ended our first full week of school by celebrating Chapel together. Pastor Nare shared a message of faith and the blessing of being connected to God, and we were also blessed by our Lutheran High Choir, directed by Mr. Scriber, who shared their musical gifts with us. After Chapel Mrs. Hernandez presented Mr. Brackvitch with a LCMS certificate for 5 years of service in Lutheran Education, and we recognized our summer and early August birthdays. We are truly blessed to have such a wonderful Gryphon school family! Please join us in giving Mr. Ethan Ferguson a warm Gryphon welcome to the Lutheran High family! Mr. Ferguson teaches Algebra II, Algebra III, and Physical Education. He is married and has a newborn son, Timothy. When at home, Mr. Ferguson enjoys outdoor activities such as playing sports and hiking. He notes thar he is "passionate about learning and helping others." Welcome, Mr. Ferguson! Last week our Faculty and Staff welcomed back our LuHigh Gryphons to campus! We closed out our Back to School experience with a school-wide Chapel. Many thanks to Ms. Loughmiller for introducing our Chapel theme for the year, "Connected," and to our LHS Choir, directed by Mr. Scriber, for providing the music! We're off to a fabulous start, Gryphons! #LuHighNOLA #backtoschool2023 |
