On Wednesday, February 21, senior students, accompanied by Mr. Scriber and Ms. Loughmiller, participated in National Engineer's Day hosted by the University of New Orleans. Students enjoyed various hands-on engineering projects and presentations, and the “Dream Big: Engineering Our World” movie produced in partnership with the American Society of Civil Engineers. At the event, students were immersed in space exploration through a portable and inflatable planetarium provided by NASA, highlighting the significance and safety of viewing the total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024. NASA and Boing also gave insight into their next mission, Artemis II, to establish a long-term presence on the Moon for science and exploration. Students witnessed first-hand the effects of decreasing the environmental pressure to make water boil in an experiment with Peeps candy, built paper helicopters that spun and flew as high as the ceiling, and generated electricity to power lights by riding a stationary bike. UNO engineering students designed a Baja kart that intrigued all Engineer's Day participants. It was a great day for our students as they learned more about engineers' roles and how they impact our world and lives. #gryphonengineers Comments are closed.
