Congratulations to LHS sophomore Isabella Alvarez for placing 2nd in our division in Spanish I at the State Literary Rally! The State Literary Rally is hosted by LSU to give Louisiana high school students the opportunity to showcase their academic and performance abilities. As shared by the Louisiana Rally Association, more than 4000 students from over 350 schools have participated in State Rally after advancing from their District Rally. LHS Students Demonstrate their engineering skills at the annual Bridge Breaking demonstation5/9/2024
Lutheran High students engage in learning activities that allow them to problem-solve and apply their knowledge in ways that mirror the real world. Mr. Scriber's Physics and Environmental Science students participated in an annual bridge-breaking demonstration whereby students working alone or in teams competed to see which bridge could withstand the most weight. This year, we had a total of 8 bridges. Each bridge was built with varying degrees in design, structure, and appearance. The winning bridge had the highest efficiency rating of 97. A bridge's efficiency is determined by dividing the load capacity of the bridge by the mass of the bridge. Everyone had a unique bridge, creating a competitive and fun atmosphere of fun and learning. Congratulations, Gryphons! On April 26, in a school-wide assembly, we celebrated our students gifted in the musical and visual arts. The LHS Choir, directed by Mr. Scriber, performed the songs, "When We Were Young" and "Cups." Immediately following the performance, Art Honor Society advisor Mrs. Lagarde recognized our District Literary Rally art placers and inducted three new members into the Lutheran High Chapter of the National Art Honor Society. The NAHS was established in 1978 by the National Art Education Association to inspire and recognize students who have shown outstanding ability and interest in art. NAHS strives to aid members in attaining the highest standards in art scholarship, character, and service and to bring art education to the attention of the school and community. Current Art Honor Society members assisted with the induction ceremony and presented the membership certificates and society gifts. Congratulations to our new inductees! At Lutheran High, students acquire deeper knowledge through hands-on learning and active exploration. Students in Ms. Able's biology class created their own "ecosystem in a jar" to research what affects the growth of an ecosystem. Students first determined a question and hypothesis, and then will collect data over a 7 day period, analyze their data, and make a conclusion. Great job, Gryphons! ##gryphonscientists Student Council leaders, under the guidance of their advisor, Mrs. Lagarde, worked with their classmates and faculty class sponsors to plan Student Council Week, April 8th - 12th. The week included the following dress-up days: Eclipse Day, Character Day, BBQ Dads vs Soccer Moms, Tacky Tourist Day, and Twin Day. On the last day, students enjoyed a special lunch of baked potatoes and salad with various toppings. Thank you to our Executive Board and Class Presidents for serving! After lunch, students spent the afternoon outdoors at Johnny Bright enjoying relays, a donut dangling contest, the 3-legged race, a hula hoop relay contest, and some free play. Special thanks to Activities Director Ms. Loughmiller for helping Student Council members organize the outdoor fun. We closed out our week with frozen treats in the lunchroom. Congratulations to the senior teams for coming first in the relay and the hula hoop contest, the junior team for winning the donut dangling contest, and the freshmen team for winning the 3-legged race! Honorable mention to the faculty teams for enthusiasm and effort in the donut dangling and the hula hoop contest! #gryphonspirit |
